Watch Vernon T. Bateman’s “Brush Strokes of Freedom”

This video was first posted on Vernon’s Versions, where you can commission an original artwork or book Vernon for a speaking engagement or other activity.

On February 8, 2025, Vernon T. Bateman held his last solo exhibit in Indiana. “Brush Strokes of Freedom” was more than an art show: it was an event that immersed everyone in the struggles he’s faced, the obstacles he has yet to overcome, as well as the broad community support that will ensure he eliminates those barriers to freedom. In this snapshot of the night, hear recording artist, author, and exoneree Leon Benson introduce the evening, see Vernon explain three paintings–including one of Larry Hoover–see the reaction of Midwest Leak Magazine Founder and Editor Le’Deana Brown when Vernon presents her an award, listen to a letter written for the evening by Congressman André D. Carson and read by his assistant, Abdul Alsaad, and more.
