On February 8, 2025, Vernon T. Bateman held his last solo exhibit in Indiana. “Brush Strokes of Freedom” was more than an art show: it was an event that immersed everyone in the struggles he’s faced, the obstacles he has yet to overcome, as well as the broad community support that will ensure he eliminates those barriers to freedom. In this clip, Vernon explains the person and larger social meaning behind his intricate painting of Larry Hoover.
